About Us

Our Mission

"To me, Elder Law is about helping seniors and families in all walks of life maintain control and dignity during what should be the golden years of their lives."

I guess you could say it’s in my blood to want to help and protect those around me. As a U.S. Army JAG Corps veteran and retired district judge, I have decades of experience helping others and fighting for what I believe in. But it’s more than that.

I have been there myself!

When I was stationed overseas in the army, I experienced the double-whammy of both my parents falling ill at the same time. While Mom was dying of bone cancer, my father had a massive stroke following open heart surgery. The latter devastating blow was like instant Alzheimer’s for my father.

Since I was on active duty, I could not physically be there to care for them. Thankfully, my brother was there to watch over them and administer their day-to-day care needs.

After Mom passed, it became obvious that Dad had to be put in a nursing home. The stress of caring for his ever-increasing needs became too much for my brother to bear alone. And worse yet, my father couldn’t even remember the most basic day to day things, let alone the fact that his beloved wife had passed. It was excruciating to experience.
When I tried to get some help, I was told to “come back and see us when all their money’s gone and we’ll get them on Medicaid.”

I later found out that was anything but the case… and he lost everything he had.

After retiring as a district judge, I realized I wasn’t ready to quit working – a feeling common among my peers.

I also knew that I didn’t want to see what happened to my family happen to other people. I know a lot of people practice law, but not a lot of lawyers are there to help elderly people and people with disabilities – and that’s what I really wanted to do.

It is my personal quest to provide these quality legal services to my community, and to ensure that in your time of need, you’ve got somewhere to turn.

…And in the event that I can’t help you, I’ll let you know that too.

Call my office today at (512) 868-2224, and let’s find out what your options are.
